Older Work
Macromedia Dance Party Invitation
Employer: Macromedia

This was an invitation to a Macromedia company party, showcasing the new programming capabilities in Flash 5. Back then not many people had done advanced programming in Flash, so this was pretty new.

Role: Developed dress-up and dance engine. Art and design by Carolyn Crampton and Jessica Browning.

Awards: Silver Award, Rich Media/Online Advertising, SF Advertising Association

Quote:
"I didn't know you could do that in Flash" — Kevin Lynch, President, Macromedia
Plasma Promotion
Client: Discreet Logic, Inc.

This was a promotional demo for Plasma, a 3D tool for web developers. I thought Plasma was cool, but ultimately the product had a hard time finding a market, and Discreet never published a version 2.0.

Role: In addition to creating this promo, I created the brand identity for Plasma (the orange stretchy logo), which was used for the packaging and other promotional materials.
Discreet Holiday E-Card 2001
Client: Discreet Logic, Inc.

This was a holiday greeting card for Discreet.

Role: Animation and design, based on a print version of the card.

This was a holiday greeting card for Macromedia.

Role: I animated everything except the weird middle part, where the laptop 'explodes.'

Hula-Hooping Cow
Employer: Macromedia

I made this hula-hooping cow for fun one day, and the folks at Macromedia liked her enough to use this in their online feature tour. Apparently, this was a huge hit in Japan, and the Japanese division of Macromedia used this extensively in their promotions of Director 8.5.

Role: 3D modelling and animation, development.

requires Shockwave
Slide Puzzle Game
Employer: Internet Learning Corporation

This was created as a lightweight "loader game" that would play while other content was downloading.

Role: Design and development.
Darts Game
Employer: Internet Learning Corporation

This was created as a lightweight "loader game" that would play while other content was downloading.

Because this was for an international audience, the game and instructions had to be more or less language-neutral.

Role: Design and development.

Role: Developed the poker engine, including the remarkably bad-at-poker AI, in less than a week.
Tomb Raider: Legend Interactive Ad
Client: Eidos

Leapster Learning System
Employer: LeapFrog, Orange Design

I spent two years as a technical lead for the Leapster, a handheld educational game system. In addition to developing games, I helped to define the various APIs and best practices as we launched the platform. Games were developed in Flash and C++.

I originally developed this game (at Orange Design) for the Leapster, and later helped convert it to run on the web:
Get Puzzled: Critter River

Developed at LeapFrog:
SpongeBob SquarePants
Spider-Man
Dora the Explorer Wildlife Rescue
Junie B. Jones
Kindergarten
First Grade
Learning with Leap
Letters on the Loose

Developed at Orange Design:
Pet Pals

Disney Princesses: Worlds of Enchantment

Just for Fun
Particle Farm
This is an interactive module for creating various effects in Flash. I was particularly happy with the way the sliders came out. I wanted to create a simple user interface element that could select not just a single value but a range of values.
Lava Lamp
By combining some of the new filters in Flash 8, I discovered this "blobbing" effect, and it seemed perfect for a lava lamp. I also made desktop versions of the lava lamp:

Mac | Windows
Giraffes
This combines my love of animation, giraffes, mouse interaction, and trigonometry.
Spider Web
This is a somewhat realistic spider web created with spring physics.
Flash Effects
These can be considered programmer "sketches," little demos of ideas that pop up from time to time. In some of these demos, you'll have to click or move your mouse to see the effect.

I am an avid amateur photographer. I'm still learning every day, and sometimes I get lucky and get a decent shot or two.
